PhD Scholarship at University of Southern Queensland: Improving Health Outcomes for People with Variations in Sex Characteristics
This scholarship supports a full-time domestic student to complete a PhD by publication at UniSQ, as part of an MRFF-funded program improving the physical and mental health of people with innate variations of sex characteristics (IVSCs). The candidate will contribute to developing and evaluating the national community-controlled InterLink psychosocial support service, with a research focus tailored to their skills and interests.
Eligibility Criteria:
- The applicant must have completed an Honours Degree with First Class or 2A Honours, or a Master’s degree with a significant research component in a social science or related health discipline (e.g., psychology, sociology) and be an Australian citizen.
- The applicant must have applied to, or be currently enrolled at UniSQ, and not be receiving equivalent support providing a benefit greater than 75% of the student stipend rate.
- The applicant must be eligible to commence or continue full-time study for the PhD (by publication) in March 2025.
Selection Criteria: The applicant will be assessed on academic merit, previous research outputs and experience, and the quality of their research proposal.

Supervisor Support Letter from the applicant’s current or prospective supervisor. - Applicants with lived experience of having an IVSC, or being a parent/caregiver to a child with IVSC, are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Applications must be submitted via the UniSQ Scholarship Application Management System by the closing date.
Award: Stipend of AUD 35,000, including UniSQ ‘top-up’.
Deadline: Friday 14 February 2025.
Note: Maximum period of tenure of an award is 3.5 years. Periods of study already undertaken towards the degree will be deducted from the period of tenure.
