The University of Amsterdam is looking for an enthusiastic Ph.D. student to work on the XENONnT direct Dark Matter detection experiment. Therefore, the university has initiated a Ph.D. position in Dark Matter Research experiment 2021 which provides scholarship support to all students enrolling for the role.
About the Research Experiment: The experiment uses scintillation and ionization signals from a liquid xenon target to look for Dark Matter interactions and is expected to become one of the world’s most sensitive Dark Matter detectors. The construction of the XENONnT detector is completed and its commissioning is ongoing. The experiment is located in the Gran Sasso underground laboratory in Italy and run by an international team of scientists. The Amsterdam group is closely involved in all aspects of XENONnT and will take an important role in the upcoming operations and data analysis.
Eligibility criteria for Ph.D. position in Dark Matter Research 2021:
- Applicants must have a Master’s degree in Physics or equivalent (expected to be received by fall 2021).
- Applicants must excel academically, as indicated by grade transcript and curriculum vitae.
- Applicants must demonstrate fluency in spoken and written English.
- Applicants must have the ability and interest to work in a collaborative team.
- Applicants must have an interest in sharing science with the wider non-scientist community.
Value of Ph.D. position in Dark Matter Research 2021:
Successful applicants of the Ph.D. position in Dark Matter Research 2021 will receive the salary, depending on relevant experience before the beginning of the employment contract, will be €2,395 to €3,061 (scale P) gross per month, based on a full-time contract (38 hours a week), exclusive 8% holiday allowance and 8,3% end-of-year bonus.
Offer: A temporary contract for 38 hours per week for the duration of 4 years (the initial contract will be for a period of 18 months and after satisfactory evaluation, it will be extended for a total duration of 4 years) and should lead to a dissertation (Ph.D. thesis).
