Olive Malienafau Nelson Pasifika Scholarship for Excellence at University of Auckland 2027:

The Olive Malienafau Nelson Pasifika Scholarship for Excellence honours the legacy of the late Olive Malienafau Nelson, the first Pacific and Samoan graduate and one of the first women graduates of Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland. The scholarship supports Pasifika students in the Faculty of Law who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, and service.

Eligibility Criteria for the Olive Malienafau Nelson Pasifika Scholarship for Excellence at University of Auckland 2027:

• Applicant must be a Pasifika student.
• Applicant must be enrolled or enrolling full-time in Part III or Part IV of one of the following:
  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB)
  • Bachelor of Laws (Honours) (LLB(Hons))
  • An associated conjoint degree at the University of Auckland.
• Applicant must have a minimum GPA/GPE of 4.50.
• Applicant must be a current University of Auckland student or have recently applied for admission to the University.

Application Process for the Olive Malienafau Nelson Pasifika Scholarship for Excellence at University of Auckland 2027:

• Read the scholarship regulations carefully and complete the online application form through the University of Auckland Scholarships portal.
• Complete all required sections and provide any requested references or endorsements by the closing date.
• Applications are assessed by a Selection Committee.
• Applicants are usually notified of the outcome approximately eight weeks after the closing date.

Selection Criteria:

• Selection is based primarily on:
  • Academic achievement, assessed through the GPA/GPE across all Law courses in the applicant's LLB or LLB(Hons) degree.
  • Participation in Pasifika cultural contexts, demonstrated through the personal statement.
• The following may also be considered:
  • Participation and service in Pasifika spaces at the University.
  • Participation and service in the wider Pasifika community in New Zealand and beyond.
  • Financial need, as demonstrated through the personal statement.
• Shortlisted applicants may be invited to participate in a talanoa, either in person or by video conference.
• The Selection Committee comprises:
  • Dean of the Faculty of Law or nominee
  • Manupiri Te Moananui-a-Kiwa | Associate Dean (Pacific) of the Faculty of Law or nominee
  • An additional academic staff member nominated by the Dean
  • Up to two representatives of the donor.
• The scholarship is awarded by the University of Auckland Council on the recommendation of the Selection Committee.

Value of the Scholarship:

• Up to NZD 12,000.
• Paid as a contribution towards compulsory tuition fees in two equal instalments across Semester One and Semester Two.
• Any remaining balance may be paid directly to the recipient in Semester Two to assist with study and living costs.

Notes:

• The recipient must remain enrolled full-time in Part III or Part IV of an LLB, LLB(Hons), or associated conjoint degree.
• To receive the Semester Two instalment, the recipient must achieve a minimum GPA of 4.50 in Semester One.
• The scholarship may be held with another scholarship, award, or grant where permitted by the relevant regulations and with approval from the University of Auckland Council.
• The recipient must declare all other scholarships, awards, or grant funding to the Scholarships Office.
• The University of Auckland Council, in consultation with the donor, may suspend or terminate the scholarship if the recipient's academic progress is unsatisfactory.
• Scholarship payments remain tax-free provided they are used directly towards study-related costs or living costs while studying. Failure to comply with this requirement may result in termination of the scholarship.
