Overview

The Nippon Foundation generously sponsors a fellowship programme for students whose career ambitions are focused on Japan and who want to pursue careers in academia, business, journalism, translation, government service, diplomacy, or law. 

In addition to their regular classes at the 10-month program, Nippon Foundation Fellows will:

  • meet frequently to talk about their research interests and experiences in Japan with the IUC Resident Director;
  • see one or more private seminars and a public talk given by well-known IUC alums or other Centre supporters;
  • host two open mini-conferences a year wherein some or all of the Fellows will give presentations; 
  • Become a member of The Nippon Foundation Scholars Association after graduating.

Elgibility Criteria: 

  • All applicants for the 10-month IUC programme who are citizens of the United States, Canada, Europe, South America, Australia, or New Zealand; (2) intend to pursue a career in academia  or another profession with a focus on Japan; and (3) will hold an undergraduate or postgraduate degree at the time the programme begins.
  • PhD applicants will be given preference.

  Award:

  • For the 10-month fellowship programme in Yokohama, the Nippon Foundation Fellows will get a modest living stipend in addition to a complete tuition grant.

Collateral includes either: Immovable property – a house or a flat or land (or) liquid security – an FD, or LIC or shares or bonds. Agricultural lands are not accepted by any bank for education loan.
