Overview:
This Scholarship has been established to support UTS undergraduate law students who can demonstrate financial disadvantage.Female applicants from refugee, asylum seeker, migrant, or Indigenous backgrounds facing disadvantage may be given preference.
Eligibity for Law Diversity and Equity Scholarship:
To be eligible for the Scholarship, an applicant must meet the following criteria:
- Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, or the holder of an Australian permanent resident visa or humanitarian protection visa; and
- Be a commencing, or continuing student (with of minimum of at least 36 credit points to complete), in an undergraduate UTS Faculty of Law degree (or combined Law degree); and
- Be intending to enrol or enrolled full-time (minimum of 18 credit points per session) in the session of selection; and
- Demonstrate financial hardship as assessed by a UAC Equity Scholarship application or an independent financial assessment through the Financial Assistance Service that confirms they meet the financial hardship criteria; and
- All candidates must apply using the UTS online Scholarships Application form to be eligible.
- All candidates must be available to attend an interview (in person or via Zoom).
Selection process:
Applicants are assessed through their scholarship application and interview based on:
- Motivation to succeed in their Faculty of Law course
- Initiative in advancing personal and professional development
- Motivation to contribute to the community
- Financial hardship as demonstrated via the UAC Equity Scholarship or confirmed by the Financial Assistance Service
Preference may be given to female students who:
- Hold a permanent humanitarian visa, or
- Have temporary asylum seeker or refugee status with a Bridging Visa E/A, Temporary Protection Visa (Subclass 785), or Safe Haven Enterprise Visa (Subclass 790), or
- Are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, with proof via a Confirmation of Aboriginality or a UTS Statutory Declaration supported by two community references (not immediate family).
Application Process:
- Recipients may request part-time study approval from UTS Scholarships. Approved part-time study may result in reduced pro-rata payments, with decisions made by the Selection Committee in consultation with the Donor’s representative.
- All payments received, regardless of course, count toward the total scholarship amount.
