Kelliher Economics Foundation Undergraduate Scholarship at Victoria University of Wellington

The Kelliher Economics Foundation (KEF), established in 1964 by Sir Henry Kelliher, aims to promote economic understanding and wellbeing in New Zealand. Funded by the Kelliher Charitable Trust, KEF supports students at all levels—from undergraduate to postdoctoral—encouraging academic excellence in economics and fostering a new generation of economists committed to addressing New Zealand’s economic challenges.

Eligibility Criteria: Eligible applicants must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents who are either current first-year students or incoming school leavers intending to enrol at the Wellington School of Business and Government, majoring in Economics.

Selection Criteria: Selection will be based primarily on academic merit, with secondary consideration given to the applicants demonstrated interest in economics and potential to contribute to New Zealand’s economic development (as evaluated by a personal statement).

Application Process: A completed online application must be submitted by 4.30 pm on the closing date. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. Any required supporting documentation (including references) must also be received by 4.30 pm on the closing date in order for the application to be considered.

Award: Upto NZD 10,000 per annum towards fees.

Note:

  1. The scholarship is paid in a single installment towards fees, with any remaining funds paid directly, and may be held alongside other awards, though preference is given to those without current scholarships.
  2. Recipients must enrol full-time, maintain passing grades, and submit a thank-you letter and annual progress reports to the donor; for third-year students covered by free fees, the tenure is two years.
  3. Participation in the Kelliher Economics Foundation Alumni Programme is optional.
  4. The Scholarship cannot be deferred to a later year.
