    The Judge Avinash Deobhakta Memorial Prize in Criminal Procedure 2024 was established in 2015 and is given in memory of Judge Avinash Deobhakta by his daughter, Kavita Deobhakta BA LLB (Hons), and his son-in-law, Sadesh Natali BHSc PGD (HSc). The main purpose of the Prize is to recognize and reward the student achieving the best grade in Criminal Procedure.

    Eligibility for Judge Avinash Deobhakta Memorial Prize in Criminal Procedure 2024:

    • The Prize will be awarded annually to the full-time student achieving the highest mark in LAWPUBL 430 Criminal Procedure.
    • Students should be enrolled full-time in a Bachelor of Laws (LLB), or LLB(Hons).

    Application Process:

    Students do not need to apply for this scholarship, award, or prize or complete an online application form. It is awarded on the recommendation of the relevant faculty or University of Auckland committee.

    • The Judge Avinash Deobhakta Memorial Prize in Criminal Procedure 2024 will be NZD 1,500.

    The Judge Avinash Deobhakta Memorial Prize in Criminal Procedure 2024 will be awarded by the University of Auckland Council upon the recommendation of the Dean of the Faculty of Law (or nominee). In the event of a tie, the Dean of the Faculty of Law shall determine if the Prize may be shared.
