University of Melbourne John Smyth Award 2026

About the Scholarship:

This award recognizes outstanding research in the Doctor of Education program. It is named in memory of John Smyth, who served as the inaugural Professorial Chair of Education at the University from 1919 until his death in 1927 and as Principal of the Training College in Victoria (which later became the Melbourne Teachers' College) from 1902 to 1927.

Eligibility for the John Smyth Award:

Applicants must:

• Be graduating from a Doctor of Education (EdD) program
• Have submitted a thesis in the preceding year
• Be enrolled in an Education-related field.
