In 2014, Scripps Networks Interactive made a grant to create the John Hunter Burlingame Scholarship. After graduating from UW Law in 1963, Mr. Burlingame served as a director of Scripps Networks Interactive and the E.W. Scripps Company. Mr. Burlingame worked at Baker & Hosteltler as an attorney before this. This award, which recognizes his career, is given out on the basis of academic distinction and demonstrated aptitude.
