Japanese Government Scholarships For Research Students (India) 2026

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan offers scholarships to international students who wish to study in graduate courses at Japanese universities as Research Students.

Eligibility for Japanese Government Scholarships For Research Students, 2026:

• The scholarship is open to all students of India.
• Masters applicants:
• Hold a Bachelors degree with a 70% average.
• The candidates should obtain their mark sheet and degree on or before 30th September 2026 for October 2026 batch.
• Ph.D. applicants:
• Masters degree with a 70% average.
• The candidates should obtain their mark sheet and degree on or before 30th September 2026 for October 2026 batch.
• The applicant must be able to produce proof of citizenship.

Application Process:

• Applicants must submit the following documents to the Japanese Diplomatic Mission.
  • Application Form
  • Placement Preference Application Form
  • Field of Study and Research Plan
  • Academic transcripts
  • Recommendation letter from the dean or the academic advisor at the current or last university attended
  • Medical certificate
  • Certificate of language proficiency

Value of Japanese Government Scholarships For Research Students, 2026:

• The successful applicants of Japanese Government Scholarships For Research Students, 2026 will receive:
  • Students receiving the preparatory education and non-regular students: 143,000 yen (Approx. Rs. 84,100) per month
  • Regular students enrolled in master’s or professional degree courses: 144,000 yen (Approx. Rs. 84,700) per month
  • Regular students enrolled in doctoral courses: 145,000 yen (Approx. Rs. 85,300) per month.
