  • The Japan Foundation is offering fellowships to researchers and scholars to conduct research in Japan in the field of Japanese studies.
  • The natural science, medical science, and engineering experts are not included. The fellowships are offered as three subcategories, Scholars and Researchers (Long-Term), Scholars and Researchers (Short-Term), and Doctoral Candidates.
  • The long-term fellowships are offered to scholars and researchers conducting research related to Japan in the humanities and social sciences for 60 days to 12 months.
  • The short-term fellowships are given to scholars and researchers conducting research related to Japan in the humanities and social sciences for travel to Japan to conduct research and gather materials for 21 to 59 days.
  •  The Ph.D. applicants conducting research related to Japan in the humanities and social sciences completed the course work and have to visit Japan are offered fellowships for 4 to 12 months.
  • The candidates applying for Japan Foundation Fellowship Program, 2017 should be nationals of a country with diplomatic relations with Japan.
  • The nationals of Taiwan can apply for Scholars and Researchers (Long-Term) and Doctoral Candidates fellowships.
  • The previous recipients of this or other fellowships can apply after three years since completing their most recent fellowship.
  • The candidates should not have been in Japan continuously for more than a year since April 1, 2017.
  • The applicants for Japan Foundation Fellowship Program, 2017 should have Japanese or English proficiency.
  • The candidates for Scholars and Researchers (Short-Term) should secure an advisor at the application time.
  • The recipients of Japan Foundation Fellowship Program, 2017 get a stipend, round-trip airfare, and other allowances.
