Overview:
To provide Indigenous students from regional and remote areas access with financial assistance towards the cost of relocating to support their academic success.
Eligibility for Indigenous Relocation and Accommodation Scholarship UTS:
- Must be of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent and provide either:
- Confirmation of Aboriginality from a Local Aboriginal Land Council or relevant organisation, or
- UTS Statutory Declaration with two community references (not immediate family) confirming identity.
- Enrolled or intending to enrol in an eligible course: undergraduate, postgraduate, or Jumbunna UniStart program.
- Relocating from a regional or remote area (Inner/Outer Regional, Remote, or Very Remote) to attend UTS.
- Not receiving other Commonwealth funding that makes them ineligible.
- Must demonstrate financial disadvantage via UAC Equity Scholarship application:
- Receiving a means-tested Commonwealth payment (e.g., ABSTUDY, Parenting Payment Single, DSP, Carer Allowance), or
- Providing evidence of exceptional financial hardship
- Alternatively, applicants unable to demonstrate disadvantage via UAC may use a UTS Financial Assistance assessment.
Selection process:
- Recipients are selected based on meeting the eligibility criteria.
- Applicants that meet the eligibility criteria are not guaranteed a Scholarship as the number available is based on Commonwealth funding available to UTS each year.
- For undergraduate students, preference is given to students commencing, or enrolled in, their first undergraduate course.
- Continuing students that have not maintained a minimum pass average (minimum WAM 50) in the previous session may not be considered for the Scholarship.
