Gates Cambridge Scholarship for International Students 2027:

The Gates Cambridge Scholarship was established following a landmark US$210 million grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to the University of Cambridge in October 2000. The first cohort of Gates Cambridge Scholars began their studies in October 2001. Since its establishment, the Gates Cambridge Trust has awarded more than 2,000 scholarships to scholars from over 100 countries.

The scholarship supports outstanding international students pursuing postgraduate study at the University of Cambridge, with a focus on academic excellence, leadership potential, and a commitment to improving the lives of others.

Eligibility for Gates Cambridge Scholarship for International Students 2027:

• Applicant must be classified as an international student for the purpose of studying at Cambridge.
• Applicant must demonstrate outstanding intellectual ability.
• Applicant must demonstrate leadership potential.
• Applicant must demonstrate a commitment to improving the lives of others.
• Applicant must apply for an eligible course at the University of Cambridge.

Eligible Programs:

• PhD – full-time or part-time
• MLitt – full-time
• One-year postgraduate course – full-time

Non-Eligible Programs:

• Any undergraduate degree, including a BA (undergraduate) or BA affiliated (a second BA)
• MASt courses
• Master of Business Administration (MBA)
• Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA)
• Global EMBA
• Master of Finance (MFin)
• Executive Master of Accounting
• Business Doctorate (BusD)
• PGCE
• MBBChir Clinical Studies
• MD Doctor of Medicine degree (6 years, part-time, Home students only)
• Graduate Course in Medicine (A101)
• Part-time degrees other than the PhD
• Non-degree courses

Application Process:

• Applicant must submit the admission and scholarship application through the University of Cambridge's Graduate Application Portal.
• Applicant must provide details of their academic background, study plans, and suitability for the proposed course.
• Applicant must complete the Gates Cambridge statement as part of the application.
• Applicant applying for a PhD must submit a research proposal.
• Applicant must provide three references that meet the Gates Cambridge reference requirements.
• Applicant must ensure that both the course admission and scholarship application requirements are completed within the relevant application deadline.

Value of the Award:

The Gates Cambridge Scholarship is a full-cost scholarship and provides the following core benefits:

• Full tuition fee coverage
• Maintenance allowance of £21,000 per year
• One economy single airfare at the beginning and end of the course
• Inbound visa costs
• Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) costs

     Discretionary Components of the Award:

• Depending on eligibility and circumstances, additional funding may be available for:
• Academic development funding – up to £2,000
• Dependent Children Allowance – up to £11,604 for one child and up to £16,548 for two or more children, based on the stated 2023–24 rates
• Fieldwork allowance
• Maternity/Paternity funding
• Hardship funding for unforeseen difficulties faced by the Scholar
