Applicants must:

• Be an Australian citizen.
• Not hold dual US–Australian citizenship or U.S. permanent residency (Green Card).
• Reside in Australia at the time of application.
• Travel on a valid Australian passport and secure a J‑1 Exchange Visitor visa for the U.S.
• Return to Australia for at least two years after completion.
• Not have already commenced study or research in the U.S.
• Commence the program in the U.S. academic year.
• Secure a host U.S. institution for research applicants.
• Not hold duplicate major funding for the same purpose during the Fulbright award.
• Complete an undergraduate degree or equivalent by the time of application.
• Provide GRE/TOEFL/IELTS/Duolingo scores if required by the U.S. host institution.
