Essex Futures Bursary 2026-27

  • The Essex Futures Bursary provides support for eligible UK undergraduate students entering the University in 2025-26.
  • The bursary package offers up to £3,000 for the first year of study.

Bursary Breakdown:

  • The bursary is divided based on household income:
  • Household Income up to £25,000:£1,000 cash bursary
    £2,000 accommodation credit
  • Household Income £25,001 - £30,000:£1,500 accommodation credit
  • Household Income £30,001 - £35,000:£1,000 accommodation credit

Eligibility Criteria:

  • UK Home Fee-paying students only.
  • Students must be entirely self-funded, including those receiving repayable loans.
  • Must register for the foundation year (Year 0) or first year (Year 1) of an undergraduate degree at the University of Essex in October 2025-26.
  • Must apply for funding from Student Finance England or another UK provider and consent to sharing household income details with the University.
  • Must apply for and accept university-owned or administered accommodation for the academic year by 2 October 2025.

Ineligible Students:

  • Overseas fee payers.
  • Students on Higher/Degree Apprenticeships.
  • Students transferring from other UK institutions.
  • Students with a fully or partly sponsored degree (excluding VISA sponsorship).
  • Students already enrolled at the University before 2025-26.

How to Apply:

  • No application form is required. If you meet the eligibility criteria, you will automatically be awarded the bursary.
  • Notification:Cash bursary notifications by end of November 2025.
  • Accommodation credit notifications in October 2025, January 2026, and April 2026.

Cash Bursary:

  • Paid directly into your bank account in two equal installments (December 2025 & February 2026).

Accommodation Credit:

  • Applied in three installments (October 2025, January 2026, April 2026).
  • If you take an approved leave of absence, bursary payments may be prorated on your return.

Withdrawal:

  • If you withdraw or are required to withdraw, no further payments will be made.
