Overview

To deepen the connections between post-secondary institutions in Canada and the Americas and to assist the development of human capital and the next generation of leaders in the Americas, the Government of Canada launched the Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program (ELAP) in 2009. 

Eligibility criteria: 

  • A national of a qualified nation or territory in North America, South America, the Caribbean, and Central America
  • A student who is enrolled full-time in a post-secondary school in a nation or territory that qualifies and who pays the tuition for that institution both at the time of application and throughout the exchange

Applicant is not eligible if :

  • you currently possess, or have pending, an application for, permanent residence in Canada;
  • you are already enrolled in a degree, diploma, or certificate program at a Canadian post-secondary school;
  • you are already a participant in a government-funded scholarship program.

Value: 

  • $8,600 for 4 months or one academic term for study or research at the college of undergraduate level.
  • $8,600 for 4 months or one academic term for study or research at the graduate level (Masters and PhD).
  • $12,400 for 5 to 6 months for study or research at the graduate level (Masters and PhD).
