Overview

The University of Sussex is thrilled to provide four named scholarships in memory of Dr John Birch (1929-2012), a beloved former music lecturer and organist. The goal of these scholarships is to help excellent musicians continue to grow and perform while studying at Sussex. This fellowship is available to all current undergraduate and postgraduate students at Sussex, regardless of whether they are studying music.

Eligibility for Dr John Birch Music Scholarships:

  • The applicant must be a newly enrolled or current student at the university.
  • The applicant must be enrolled for the academic year 2024.
  • The applicant must demonstrate a high level of expertise in their chosen instrument. A Grade 8 (or similar) qualification is desired, but not required.

Application Process:

  • All eligible candidates must complete and submit the online application to be considered for the scholarship.
  • The auditions take place in October and the successful candidates will be notified of the application status.
