Deane Orchestral Studies Scholarship at Victoria University of Wellington
The Deane Orchestral Studies Scholarship, supported by the Deane Endowment Trust, strengthens the connection between the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and Te Kōkī—NZ School of Music through a Master’s programme. It aims to support exceptionally talented musicians pursuing careers in orchestral performance and contribute to the development of a National Music Centre.
Eligibility Centre of Deane Orchestral Studies Scholarship:
- Applicants must have completed an undergraduate degree in performance (GPA 7) at NZSM or any New Zealand university on any orchestral instrument, or demonstrate equivalent professional experience, and have applied for the Master of Fine Arts in Creative Practice (MFA (CP)) at Te Tōkī—NZ School of Music, residing in Wellington for their studies.
- Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents.
Selection Criteria:
- These scholarships are awarded to the most talented students in orchestral performance enrolling in the Master of Fine Arts (Creative Practice) at Te Kōkī—New Zealand School of Music.
- Applicants must have submitted their MFA(CP) in Music/Sound application by the scholarship closing date.
Application Process: A completed online application must be submitted on the closing date. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.
Award: NZD 15,000.

- The scholarship will cover university fees, with any remaining funds paid directly to the recipient, who must also write a thank-you letter to the donor.
- Recipients are expected to actively engage with the NZSM community, including participation in ensembles, presentations, or performances at NZSM or university events.
