Croucher Scholarships for Doctoral Study 2024

The Croucher Scholarships for Doctoral Study aim to provide financial support for promising young individuals in Hong Kong who wish to pursue scientific research at a doctoral level outside Hong Kong. These scholarships are offered by the Croucher Foundation and are designed to enable recipients to engage in full-time study or research in natural sciences, medicine, or technology at approved academic institutions abroad, leading to the attainment of a PhD degree.

Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for the Croucher Scholarships, applicants must:

• Be permanent residents of Hong Kong.
• Have attained First-Class Honours or equivalent qualifications in their first degree, or possess or expect to obtain a higher degree (e.g., MSc or MPhil degree) by September 2024.

Note that MPhil transfer to doctoral candidature is not considered equivalent to an ordinary MPhil or MSc.

• Applicants in their final year of their first degree are also welcome to apply, with any award offer being conditional upon obtaining First-Class Honours or equivalent qualifications by July 2024.

Value of the Scholarship :

As a Croucher Scholar, recipients can expect the following benefits:

• An annual maintenance allowance of USD 38,850 per annum.
• Payment of tuition fees and college fees (where applicable).
• A one-way economy class airfare at the beginning and end of the tenure.
• A one-off arrival allowance of USD 1,000 for the first year.
• An academic development allowance of up to USD 2,000 per annum.
• A medical insurance allowance of up to USD 2,000 per annum.
• A family allowance for eligible candidates.
• A commencement award of USD 9,700 towards the end of the doctoral studies.
• Funding support for science education-related activities and projects in schools and the community.

Application Process:

• Candidates must submit either a 1,000-word proposal or a 5-10 minute video recording addressing specific questions related to inspiring leadership and the significance of their achievements.
• Two signed letters of reference from referees should be sent directly to references@croucher.org.hk.
• Required documents, including the proposal, academic transcripts, certificates, and proof of residency, should be uploaded to the online application system.
• Short-listed candidates will be invited for an interview in March/April 2024.

Application deadline for the 2024–25 selection exercise: 15 November 2023.

Final transcripts deadline (for those awaiting results): 30 June 2024.
