Buchanan Scholarship in New Zealand History and Society at Victoria University of Wellington

The Julia Paton Scholarship, established in collaboration with the Stout Research Centre for New Zealand Studies, supports research into New Zealand’s history, cultures, and society. It is designed to help cover costs for students pursuing a Masters by research degree at Victoria University of Wellington.

Eligibility Criteria of Buchanan Scholarship in New Zealand History and Society: 

Applicants must be full-time Master’s by thesis students researching New Zealand’s history, cultures, or society, including those transferring from other universities, and both domestic and international students are eligible.

Selection Criteria: 

1. Applicants must be enrolled or intending to enrol full-time in a Master’s by thesis at Victoria University of Wellington, conducting research in New Zealand’s history, cultures, or society.
2. Both domestic and international students are eligible.
3. Selection is primarily based on academic merit and research suitability, with financial need considered only in cases where applicants are otherwise comparable; the scholarship may not be awarded if no suitable candidate is found.

Application Process: A completed online application must be submitted on the closing date. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. 

Award: NZD 20,000.

Note: 

1. Recipients must write a letter of thanks to the donor of this scholarship.
2. The Scholarship cannot be deferred to a later year.
3. The Scholarship may be held in conjunction with other awards.
