The late Mr. Charles John Bishop left a bequest to the University of Auckland in his will, which was used to establish the Bishop Music Prizes to support the department's study of musical composition. There will be two prizes awarded: a Junior Prize to the student with the highest grade in MUS 111 and a Senior Prize to the student with the greatest grade in either MUS 211 or MUS 311.
Eligibility for Bishop Music Prizes at the University of Auckland:
- Be enrolled in the University of Auckland School of Music.
- For the Junior Prize:
- Have achieved the highest mark in MUS 111, and
- Be continuing to study Composition in the following year.
- For the Senior Prize:
- Have achieved the highest mark in MUS 211 or MUS 311, and
- Be continuing to study Composition in the following year.
- Meet course progression requirements as determined by the School of Music.
Value of Bishop Music Prizes at the University of Auckland:
- Junior Prize: NZD $1,000 (awarded annually).
- Senior Prize: NZD $1,000 (awarded annually).
- A student who previously won the Junior Prize is eligible to win the Senior Prize in later years.
