    Anstiss-Garland Charitable Trust Postgraduate Scholarship at Victoria University of Wellington

    This scholarship was established in 2014 by the Anstiss-Garland Charitable Trust following the death of Diana Anstiss, this scholarship honors her and Lilian Garland’s commitment to supporting disadvantaged individuals. It provides funding for postgraduate students studying social justice, particularly in rehabilitation and restorative justice.

    Eligibility Criteria:

    1. Applicants must be full-time postgraduate students at Te Herenga Waka–Victoria University of Wellington and must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents.
      Applicants must be students from any course of study focusing on social justice, with those studying Criminology, Psychology, Sociology, Law, or
    2. Restorative Justice encouraged to apply, and applicants holding a full three-year PhD scholarship are not eligible.

    Selection Criteria:

    1. Applicants must be postgraduate students at Victoria University of Wellington and must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents.
    2. Applicants must be currently studying in areas related to social justice, such as prevention of recidivism, minority group representation in courts and prisons, youth crime, or restorative justice.

    Application Process: A completed online application must be submitted by 4.30 pm on the closing date. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. Any required supporting documentation (including references) must also be received by 4.30 pm on the closing date in order for the application to be considered.

    Award: NZD 5,000.

    Deadline: 1st November, 2025.

    Note:

    1. The Trustees of the Anstiss-Garland Charitable Trust require a report at the conclusion of the scholarship period. 
    2. Recipients will be required to write a letter of thanks to the Trustees of the Anstiss-Garland Charitable Trust.
    3. The Scholarship cannot be deferred to a later year.
    4. The Scholarship may be held in conjunction with other awards.
