Description:
The funds for this Prize which are provided by the income made from a bequest made in 1950 by Winifred Gimblett were transferred to the University of Auckland in 1965. The main purpose of the Prize is to reward and recognize excellence in research in the field of Psychology, with particular reference to the behavior of adults or that of children and adolescents, the latter including the effects of mental hindrances or disabilities upon their scholastic progress.
Eligibility for the Winifred Gimblett Prize:
- Applicant must be a full-time student undertaking research towards a Master of Science in Psychology.
- The candidate will be judged to have written the most outstanding research essay, dissertation, or thesis specializing in the behavior of adults or that of children and adolescents, the latter including the effects of mental hindrances or disabilities upon their scholastic progress.
- As a minimum standard, the student must receive an A- grade.
Selection process:
- Nomination is made to the Scholarships Office.
- The Prize is awarded by the University of Auckland Council on the recommendation of the Head of the School of Psychology.

Candidates do not need to apply for this scholarship, award, or prize or complete an online application form. It is awarded on the recommendation of the relevant faculty or University of Auckland committee.
