About the scholarship:
This award recognizes a student in the Master of Teaching (Secondary) who excels in teaching languages and takes into account the attainments of the candidate as a teacher, academic achievements in the Languages Learning Area, and financial need. This award was established in honor of Manuel Gelman, who was the former head of the department of languages in the former Melbourne College of Advanced Education and President of the Australian Federation of Modern Language Teachers’ Associations.
Eligibility for the Manuel Gelman Award for Teaching Excellence (Languages):
Applicants must be enrolled in the Master of Teaching (Secondary) at the Melbourne Graduate School of Education in the language learning area.
Selection Criteria:
- Eligible applicants will be assessed on the grounds of academic merit and financial disadvantage
- Academic merit will take into account the Languages Learning Area subjects and the Clinical Teaching Practice subjects
- Financial disadvantage will be determined by the results of the Student Financial Assessment Form.
Value: A single cash payment of up to $5,000.
