This award was created in 1988 to recognize Cecil Segedin's exceptional contributions to the University and in particular to the Department of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, which he oversaw from the department's founding in 1963 until his retirement in 1980. The Prize is intended to promote the pursuit of excellence in the field of engineering science.
Eligibility for Cecil M Segedin Prize In Engineering Science:
- The student who earns the top mark in Part IV of the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Engineering Science program—ENGSCI 700 Research Project—will win the Cecil M. Segedin Prize in Engineering Science each year.
- The University of Auckland Council will bestow the Prize after receipt of the Department of Engineering Science Head's nomination.
- If there are no candidates with adequate merit in any given year, the University of Auckland Council is under no obligation to award the Prize.
- In case of a tie, the Prize may be split, as decided by the head of the Department of Engineering Science.
- The amount given to each winner will match the Prize's initial value.
- The University of Auckland Council may change or modify the aforementioned rules as long as they remain true to the Prize's primary objective.
