The SOAS University of London is offering scholarships to advance the understanding and preservation of ancient to pre-modern Buddhist and Hindu art in Southeast Asia.

Eligibility

  • Must possess a good honors degree, preferably first-class, from a UK institution or overseas equivalent.
  • Open to applicants paying fees at the UK/EU or overseas rate
  • Candidates undertaking the MA in Human Rights Law must demonstrate how they will specialize in the promotion and protection of the rights of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender persons under the law
  • Candidates undertaking the LLM in Human Rights, Conflict, and Justice must demonstrate how they will specialize in the promotion and protection of the rights of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender persons under the law.
  • New scholarship applicants must have applied to SOAS but are not required to have received an offer of admission by the scholarship deadline. An offer will need to have been received by the time the relevant panel meets to discuss scholarship applications.
  • Applicants must meet the English language condition of their offer of admission to study at SOAS as soon as possible but no later than 1 June 2022 . If your offer is conditional on English, please arrange your English test and ensure you meet the English requirements as soon as possible.
  • Please note that most scholarships do not cover funding or even allow for Pre-sessionals. Please check the wording of your scholarship offer carefully to see if you are eligible for a Pre-sessional course or whether you need to achieve SOAS direct entry scores by the deadline specified in your scholarship terms and conditions.

Documents required

  • The applicants for the Alphawood Scholarships should apply for the course at the University.
  • The candidates should use their personal statement in their application to show their interest in ancient to pre-modern Hindu or Buddhist art.
  • The applicants should also show their interest to pursue teaching, employment, or further study of Southeast Asian art in the region after their studies.

Selection Criteria

  • The candidates applying for the Alphawood Scholarships, are selected based on their academic merit, financial need, and promise.
  • The applicants will also be assessed based on their experience in Southeast Asian art and their intention to make an impact on its preservation.

Value of the scholarship

The recipients of the Alphawood Scholarships, get full tuition fees, a maintenance allowance for living and studying, and flight costs for to and from the UK.
