  • The Nigerian Women Association of Georgia is offering NWAG - Nigerian Female Students Scholarship, 2017, each of $200.00 to Nigerian undergraduate female students.
  • The applicants must be enrolled in universities or tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
  • Applicants of NWAG - Nigerian Female Students Scholarship, 2017 are required to submit the following documents along with the application form before the deadline:
  • Proof of state of origin (from a local government office or University)
  • 2 letters of recommendation one from their lecturers or village head, local government chairperson, Mosque Imam/Church pastor and the other from either Dean or Head of the Department
  • Copy of current university student ID card
  • Current copy of photograph
  • A description in less than half a page regarding why they are applying and they should be granted the scholarship
  • A 2-page essay on "Women are marginalized in leadership positions in Nigeria. Position yourself as a woman activist and propose how you can advocate for women rights in government positions, challenge early/child marriage, and gender discrimination.”

More about Nigerian Women Association of Georgia (NWAG)

In 2000, Mrs. Dayo Keshi invited a handful of dynamic Nigerian women to her residence to discuss how we could combine our efforts to impact the lives of Nigerians at home and abroad. Many of the women gathered were accomplished individuals who belonged to various community organizations. The birth of NWAG was to combine our efforts and harness our talents as Nigerian women, in service to accomplish more in our communities. Thus our motto: \"TOGETHER WE ACHIEVE\" The Nigerian Women Association of Georgia (NWAG), founded in April 2000, is a non-profit (501C3), community-focused, service-oriented organization based in Atlanta, Georgia. Membership is made up of women who are Nigerian by birth or marriage. NWAG’s mission is to serve our local Atlanta Metro community, and country, Nigeria by empowering, enriching and educating women and the youth, thereby fostering togetherness and excellence in our collective pursuits. NWAG supports organizations whose mission aligns with our mission. Major accomplishments in the United States • Awarded 38 one-time scholarships to qualified high school seniors in Atlanta, Georgia • Annually support Southside Medical Center, Sickle Cell Foundation, International Women’s House, Hosea Feed the Hungry, MedShare International and Atlanta Community Food Bank • Provided support to Hurricane Katrina Victims, Carter Center Guinea Worm Eradication Program, Mercy Foundation, and Haiti Earthquake Victims • Organize annual summer enrichment and educational programs for youth and children in the Atlanta Metro area (WAZOBIA Sunfest) • Since 2009, annual collaboration with National Black Arts Festival in Atlanta, Georgia (a first for a Nigerian Organization) to showcase Nigerian culture • Conduct outreach to schools in the Metro Atlanta area to educate students about the cultural heritage of Nigeria and Africa • Since 2008, NWAG volunteers annually at MedShare International to sort and package medical supplies to be shipped to countries in need. NWAG has also volunteered at Atlanta Community Food Bank 2011, and Foster Care Support Foundation 2012 • Organize annual Health Fair in collaboration with the Alliance of Nigerian Organizations (ANOG), Nigerian Nurses Association of Georgia (NNAG) in Atlanta & The Association of Nigerian Physicians in Americas (ANPA) Major accomplishments in Nigeria • Awarded 369 scholarships to female college students representing 36 states and FCT • Support the nutrition program of 10 orphanages in 9 states and FCT through the Beacon 100 campaign; since 2009, provide holiday gifts through the Angel Tree Project. • Shipped 4 containers of medical supply worth over $1 million dollars to 12 community hospitals in 11 states in Nigeria. • Participated in HIV/AIDS awareness campaign in Nigeria • Collaborate with several organizations in Nigeria with similar missions o Supported the Women Trafficking and Child Labour Eradication Foundation (WOTCLEF) o Distributed blood pressure cuffs to 15 states o Donated syringes to Boltless Hospital, Ilupeju, Lagos o Partnered with Nigerian Bottling Company and Prime City Construction to Co-sponsor the 2009 Scholarship Award Ceremony in Lagos, Nigeria o Supported Society for the Welfare for the Blind in Nigeria (SWBN) • Support and collaborate with organizations that conduct Medical Missions in Nigeria o Eko Club International (2010, 2012) o Mercy Foundation
