The project will investigate how proteins such as growth factors or cytokines can direct lung repair. Pulmonary fibrosis (PF) is one such condition where aberrant repair plays a role in disease. Synthetic messenger RNA will encode reparative factors to explore whether nucleic acids can promote wound healing. The studentship will be based in the Inflammation, Repair & Development Section which is within the Respiratory Division of the National Heart & Lung Institute and provides a stimulating environment of basic scientists and clinicians working across themes of airway regeneration, immunology, and translational lung research. The PhD candidate will have the opportunity to bring together multiple disciplines of epithelial cell biology, non-viral vector formulation and lung physiology.
The studentship has been made possible by the National Heart and Lung Institute (NHLI), and will be supervised by Dr Asha Patel and Professor Robert Snelgrove. We expect the PhD to begin 1st November 2022.
Studentships include funding for Home tuition fees plus stipend (£18,000 per annum).
