  • The Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts is offering fellowships to doctoral students in art history for students studying art and architecture of the United States, including native and pre-Revolutionary America.
  • The Predoctoral Fellowships For Historians Of American Art, 2017-18 is for four to six weeks.
  • The successful applicants should travel abroad in areas such as South America, Africa, Europe, and Europe to historical sites and sites of cultural interest including museums, exhibitions, collections, and monuments. 
  • The preference will be given to those who have little to no experience of research travel abroad. 
  • The applicants who are affiliated with the National Gallery of Art are not eligible for Historians Of American Art, 2017-18.
  • The candidates whose applications are pending or have been awarded a fellowship should not apply for other fellowships at the center.
  • The applicants should apply through nomination by the chair of a graduate department of art history or another appropriate department.
  • The Department chairs should submit one nomination letter listing all the candidates.
  • The applicants should submit a proposal explaining its objective and feasibility in 500 words, detailed itinerary, and a budget.
  • The candidates should also submit a curriculum vitae including previous scholarly or professional travel and two recommendation letters.
  • The recipients of Historians Of American Art, 2017-18 will get a maximum of $6,000. for the travel plan.
