Japan Centre for International Exchange is offering JCIE US-Japan Journalism Fellowship, 2017 to American journalists who wish to gain an understanding of social and policy issues of Japan and US-Japan relations.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Applicants of JCIE US-Japan Journalism Fellowship, 2017 should be working journalists with a minimum of 5 years experience in the media field.
  • Applicants who had not had the opportunity to be based professionally as a foreign correspondent in Japan will be considered.
  • Candidates must have an interest in covering policy-relevant issues in Japan.
  • Candidates applying for JCIE US-Japan Journalism Fellowship, 2017 must be committed to a career in the field of journalism.
  • Japanese language skills are optional.

Documents required:

  • Application form
  • Statement of interest in 400-600 words approx describing why they are interested in Japan and US-Japan relations and how the program would benefit them
  • Story ideas in 300-500 words at most outlining 2-3 stories they'd like to pursue in and the outlets they are planning to publish them in
