Title of the thesis “Effect of climate change/DRR on 3-5 years Tharu Children’s Nutrition Status in Nawalparasi ( ba.su. purba) Nepal” Introduction Study Area Caste and location: The study will be conducted in Nawalparasi ( ba.su. purba) district of Nepal. This community is endogenous ethnic caste of western Nawalparasi Rural Municipality Terai region of Nepal. This area consists of 47987 populations. Among them, 87.58% are Tharu, who are economically backward. Every year, this area is affected by flood and land cutting problems. Objectives: • To analyse Climate change/DRR effect of nourishment among 3-5 years (ECD) children. • To examine the linkage of Climate change effect and practices of adaptation in the study area. Literature review: Agricultural adaptation to climate change will lead to the development of new crops bred to survive in different climatic conditions or in new geographical areas. These developments may also occur as agricultural systems reduce their GHG emissions. It is important to ensure that crop breeding should focus on maintenance of nutrient content and absorption as well as improved yields. Research methodology: State of Problem Good nutrition has prime importance in the promotion of health, prevention of disease and productive and healthy manpower in the country. Malnutrition has been major obstacles for development promotion of nutritional status. The main reason for malnutrition is imbalance distribution and lack of health services and household foods insecurity. Besides these factors poor environment sanitation and Climate change affects such as land slide, flood, sedimentation, fire, drought and precipitation are obstacles development. Every year, many children die in the world due to the malnutrition and Climate change affect due to the less food, poor shelter, flooding and landslides in South Asia (Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Bhutan and Shree Lanka). Mothers have less knowledge and practice of mother, immunization, infectious disease etc. Among them, Climate change affect is directly related determination of nutritional status of early childhood development (ECD) children. Research design Mixed method (Quantitative and Qualitative): This study will apply mixed method (quantitative and qualitative). Sampling design All the items under consideration in any field of inquiry constitute a universe of population. My research is descriptive research studies. In the study it is concerned describing the characteristics of particular, individual or a group. Target population and sample selection process The study will be carried in Nawalparasi Rural Municipality of Nawalparasi (ba.su. purba) Nepal under 5 years children are 3738. Population of Study: The researcher applies random population method to collect the data from the Climate change victims of the study area. Source of data, sampling, Tools, Instruments The study will be using both primary data and secondary data. Researcher applies random sampling technique. The main tools used in study will be interview schedule questions related. The questions are height, weight and Mid Upper Arms Circumference (MUAC). As an instrument use in study weighing balance and Shakier Tape. Validation of Tools For the validation of tools (interview schedule), a pilot test will be conducted in the study area. For this, minimum 25 mothers having 3-5 years children will be interviewed. Data Collection Procedure For the data collection, the researcher visits all the mothers of sample children in their home, in the case of her absence researcher consults senior female member of the family. Similarly height, weight and Mid Upper Arms Circumference (MUAC) of the children is also measured and recorded in the observation form. Primary and secondary data will be used in report. Data analysis procedure Collected data and information will be analyzed and interpreted with qualitative and descriptive ways. Sample will be analysed in the SPSS statistical software and show in percentage, average, maximum and minimum range. Conclusion (Contribution to the community): This research is very important in Nepal because nowadays Nepal cannot research DRR related issues in child nutrition. This research may help to provide knowledge to the community and Nation in Climate change/DRR effect on child nutrition and control measures in affected communities.
