About this course

The Ph.D. program emphasizes rigorous training in microeconomic theory and applications, quantitative methods, and applied public policy analysis combined with production economics, industrial organization, international economics, labor economics, development economics, and environment and natural resource economics.

Eligibility Criteria

  • 550 on the TOEFL paper-based test (PBT) or 80 on the TOEFL internet-based test (iBT) is the minimum eligibility for admission
  • IELTS score of 7 is minimum eligibility for admission.

Students including those who did not major in economics or agricultural economics are
expected to have completed the equivalent of the following UC Davis courses:
• Calculus-based Intermediate Microeconomics: ARE 100A & 100B (8 units)
• Statistics: STA 103A or STA 103B (4 units)
• Econometrics: ARE 106 (4 units)
• One year of Calculus: MAT 21A, 21B, 21C (12 units)
• One course in linear algebra: MAT 22A (4 units)
• Additional upper-division courses in economics or agricultural economics as well
as math and statistics are strongly encouraged.

How to Apply

Graduate Record Examination (GRE)
It is highly recommended that applicants take the General GRE no later than December.
