About this course

Designed for health professionals, to award academic credit for a student-negotiated area of ultrasound practice that address individual professional needs. Examples of topics include Gynaecology & Early Pregnancy Ultrasound and Carotid Artery Ultrasound. Personalised work-based learning and lectures in underlying theoretical concepts will enable proficient performance of specified ultrasound examinations.

Eligibility Criteria

Bachelor’s degree with 2:2 honours (or overseas equivalent) or a professional qualification in Radiography, Nursing, Midwifery or Medicine. Applicants must have a suitable clinical training placement for the duration of the programme. Entry is subject to satisfactory references and interview.

NOTE: This programme is only available to overseas applicants who already have a suitable UK/EU clinical placement and are holding a valid work visa that covers them for the entire duration of the programme. Overseas applicants who do not meet the above criteria are not eligible for this programme due to UKBA restrictions on overseas applicants studying part-time course in the UK.

English language requirement:

Optional Modules

The Negotiated Learning module can be taken as a stand-alone module for sonographers who are already qualified, to gain academic credits in a proficiency based topic that will advance their practice. Alternatively other professionals may study the Negotiated Learning with Clinical Proficiency and Fundamentals of Ultrasound modules to gain a CASE accredited PG Certificate. They may subsequently add further modules to achieve the PG Diploma or MSc in Medical Ultrasound.

Your application will be assessed by two academics. All applicants who fulfil the entry requirements are interviewed. We aim to respond to all applications within six weeks. However, during the months prior to the closing date, and over holiday periods, applications may take longer to process due to the volume received at this time.

Personal statement and supporting information

The personal statement should include the area of proficiency the student wishes to study and give details of scanning time and mentorship offered at their place of work.

Application closing date

The deadline for applications is 02 September for 2016 entry. Note that funding deadlines may be earlier. Applications will be considered subject to availability of places, so we encourage you to submit your application as soon as possible. International applications must be received by 29 July to allow sufficient time for visa processing.
