About this course

The Postgraduate Certificate in Professional Practice in Architecture (The Cambridge Part 3 Course and Examination) has validation from the ARB and RIBA for graduates who have obtained RIBA/ARB Parts 1 and 2 or have confirmation of Parts 1 and 2 equivalence from the ARB. The aim of the course is to act as a forum for discussion of certain major concerns of the profession as well as providing preparation for the examination.

The Postgraduate Certificate is aimed at individuals who have completed RIBA/ARB Parts 1 and 2 with at least two years' practical training experience in architectural or related practice under the direct supervision of an Architect registered in the EU. At least 12 months of this supervised practice must be undertaken in the UK, under the direct supervision of a UK-registered Architect. 

Students may apply to the Postgraduate Certificate in Professional Practice in Architecture in their second year of practical experience, but must have 2 years of supervised practice in order to undertake the examinations.

Eligibility Criteria

The course is open to all graduates who have obtained RIBA/ARB Parts 1 and 2 (or confirmation equivalence) and who will have recently completed the appopriate practical training experience.

The assessment comprises several elements. To successfully complete the course the candidate will need to pass all elements:

  • Personal Statement and CV
  • Written Examination (Papers 1 + 2)

The application deadline is Wednesday 1 June 2016. Interviews will be offered to eligible candidates in the second and third week of June. Candidates will be informed of final decisions towards the end of July.

Graduate work in Cambridge is intense and very intellectually demanding and so the University has high academic entry requirements. You are normally expected to hold:

At least a 2i honours degree from a UK university or an equivalent standard from an overseas university; and
Completion of, or release from, any current training or education course.
