About this course

There is high demand for innovative and well-informed sports coaches, with widely recognised qualifications, in all sectors of domestic and international sport.

Elite coaches, expert academics, and world-leading researchers have combined their knowledge and skills in forging this unique and enduring program that offers the latest and most innovative theory and practice in sports coaching. This program provides practicing coaches with the opportunity to enhance and develop quality in their professional practice and prepare them for the world of high performance coaching.

Students will engage in learning experiences that promote and encourage extensive analysis and critical reflection on current coaching practices and contexts. They will develop expertise and knowledge in examining and enhancing both athletic and coaching performance across bio-physical (e.g. recovery, program management, rate limiters) and socio-cultural (e.g. quality coaching practices, emotional regulation, cultures of excellence) domains.

Study options:

Graduates will have the opportunity to progress to the following programs:

  • Master of Philosophy
  • Doctor of Philosophy

Careers:

Graduates move into more advanced coaching roles and work with high performance athletes and sporting teams. The design of the courses within the program offers opportunities for application of learning experiences specifically to the coaches¿ setting. Careers include:

  • head and assistant coach
  • director of coaching
  • high performance coach
  • sports development manager
  • performance director
  • coach educator

While this degree may be accredited by an official industry accreditation body in Australia, completion of the degree may not result in graduates receiving automatic accreditation. Students can contact the relevant registration body for details of any conditions for accreditation.

Academic Requirement:

 For Australian students:

  • An approved bachelor honours degree in the same discipline.

 For International students:

  • An approved bachelor honours degree in the same discipline.
  • IELTS overall 6.5; reading 6; writing 6; speaking 6; listening 6. Study Abroad and Incoming Exchange students are only required to meet the overall score (eg 6.5 IELTS or 87 TOEFL or 64 PTE( Pearson Test of English )).
  • TOEFL (Paper-based Test of English as a Foreign Language): 570 (5.0 in TWE (written), and 54 in reading & listening).

English language requirement:

  • IELTS overall 6.5; reading 6; writing 6; speaking 6; listening 6.
