About this course

The programme concerns the broad field of software engineering, a field that is in constant movement due to innovations in technology, design patterns and techniques. Software engineering distinguishes itself from classical computer science by its focus on human factors, system size and complexity of requirements.

Eligibility Criteria

In general, the programme is open to applicants in the following qualification categories:

  • Cat. 1: Dutch academic Bachelor’s degree in (Technical) Computer Science/ Informatics
  • Cat. 2: Foreign degree comparable to the one mentioned above, with sufficient knowledge of the English language (see bottom of this page)
  • Cat. 3: Bachelor’s degree from a university of applied sciences (HBO) in Technical Computer Science/ Informatics (or a comparable programme), with a grade point average of 7 or higher (see conditions below)
  • Cat. 4: Different Bachelor's degree, combined with relevant work experience in the field of software engineering (see conditions below)

Every application for admission must be approved by the SE Board of Examiners.

Course Modules

The SE course load is based on the process of software engineering and its fixed components. There are three courses on the technical aspects of software engineering:

  • Software Evolution (1st semester, 6 EC) 
  • Software Testing (1st semester, 6 EC) 
  • Software Construction (2nd semester, 6EC) 

and three courses on the managerial/ human aspects of software engineering:

  • Software Architecture (1st semester, 6 EC) 
  • Requirements Engineering (1st semester, 6 EC) 
  • Software Process (2nd semester, 6 EC)
