About this course

This flexible programme has been developed for teachers and other TESOL professionals (eg inspectors, curriculum developers) and for those planning to undertake doctoral study in TESOL/Applied Linguistics. The programme is part of the Graduate School of Education provision in the TESOL/Applied Linguistics field, which also includes an EdD Pathway, and a PhD programme.

The programme particularly values the professional experience that participants bring to the course and it provides a learning context where you can reflect on:

  • your professional practice;
  • the policies and diverse contextual factors which frame it;
  • the theoretical frameworks which inform it.

  • For applicants whose first language is not English we require proof of English proficiency, such as an overall IELTS 7 with all sub-tests of 6 or above or equivalent.

  • Pedagogy and Curriculum in TESOL
  • Research Methods for TESOL
  • Second Language Learning

Optional units include:

  • Globalisation and the Politics of English
  • Intercultural Pragmatics and Communication
  • Language Testing and Assessment
  • Teaching and Assessing Fluency and Pronunciation

You will also complete a 15,000-word dissertation.
