About this course

The Institute for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Dynamics (IBED) offers the state-of-the-art track Ecology and Evolution in the Master's programme Biological Sciences. The aim of this two-year programme is to promote understanding of the relationships between living organisms, the extinction and evolution of species and the functioning of ecosystems for a sustainable earth.

Eligibility Criteria

All tracks are two-year programmes, and are designed for students with a Dutch Bachelor of Science degree in Biology or its equivalent, but are potentially also open for students from universities or Higher Vocational Education (Dutch: HBO) with a background in beta-gamma, future planet studies, biomedical sciences, life sciences,  geography, earth sciences, chemistry, environmental sciences, physics, mathematics and even econometrics.

Course Modules

The two-year track Ecology and Evolution in the Master’s programme Biological Sciences consists of compulsory, constrained choice and elective courses, a research project and a literature study.

Compulsory, constrained choice and elective courses taught in this programme include:

  • Current Trends in Evolution  or Soil-Plant-Animal Interactions
  • Experimental Design and Analysis
  • Masterclasses in Ecology and Evolution
  • Scientific Writing in English
  • Choice of other courses (elective or courses that are not part of the curriculum, the latter if the Examinations Board approves).
