About this course

Molecular biology is the study of the structure and function of genes and the proteins they encode, including genome sequencing, recombinant DNA technology and macromolecular structure determination. This program provides advanced theoretical and practical training in molecular biology through lectures, workshops, extended projects and directed study. Students gain training in research methodology in molecular biology and have the opportunity to undertake major individual research.

Careers:

Graduates have a wide range of opportunities available. These include employment in pathology and hospital laboratories through to the food, biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries, as well as government departments and research laboratories, and the higher education sector.

While this degree may be accredited by an official industry accreditation body in Australia, completion of the degree may not result in graduates receiving automatic accreditation. Students can contact the relevant registration body for details of any conditions for accreditation.

Academic Requirement:

 For Australian students:

To enrol in the program, a student must hold :

  • Bachelor degree in any field or a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in Molecular Biology, with UQ or equivalent GPA of 5 or above on a 7 point scale.

 For International students:

To enrol in the program, a student must hold -

  • Bachelor degree in any field or a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in Molecular Biology, with UQ or equivalent GPA of 5 or above on a 7 point scale.
  • IELTS overall 6.5; reading 6; writing 6; speaking 6; listening 6. Study Abroad and Incoming Exchange students are only required to meet the overall score (eg 6.5 IELTS or 87 TOEFL or 64 PTE( Pearson Test of English )).
  • TOEFL (Paper-based Test of English as a Foreign Language): 570 (5.0 in TWE (written), and 54 in reading & listening)

English language requirement:
