About this course

This program allows students with some experience in magnetic resonance to acquire advanced knowledge. Students are trained in new techniques which are not yet part of standard clinical practice. Students will be in a position to embark on projects that make innovative use of magnetic resonance; to assess the impact of such innovation on the clinical utility of the modality; and to assess the needs of a radiography practice, and the ability of equipment from various manufacturers to meet these needs. The program consists of core courses, electives and a research component.

For students studying via flexible delivery, access to a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanner is required for the research component of this program.

Careers:

There is currently a demand for MRI physicists, MR Technologists, image processors, engineers, and biomedical engineers within Australia and internationally. Graduates have found employment in leadership positions in hospitals, private practice and research facilities. For a sample of the job opportunities in magnetic resonance,students can  visit the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM), Australian Institute of Radiography (AIR), or visit an Allied Health locum agency website.

Completion of this degree will not fulfill requirements for clinical accreditation. Interested individuals can contact professional bodies such as the Australian Institute of Radiography (AIR) or the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) for details on membership and accreditation requirements.Students can contact the relevant registration body for details of any conditions for accreditation.

Academic Requirement:

 For Australian students:

To enrol in the program, a student must hold -

  • Bachelor degree in mathematics; physics; chemistry; biology; medical imaging; medical radiation; radiography; allied health; biomedical engineering; computer science or an approved discipline. Applications on the basis of post-secondary study and two years work experience in a related field will be individually assessed.

 For International students:

To enrol in the program, a student must hold -

  • Bachelor degree in mathematics; physics; chemistry; biology; medical imaging; medical radiation; radiography; allied health; biomedical engineering; computer science or an approved discipline. Applications on the basis of post-secondary study and two years work experience in a related field will be individually assessed.
  • IELTS overall 6.5; reading 6; writing 6; speaking 6; listening 6.Study Abroad and Incoming Exchange students are only required to meet the overall score (eg 6.5 IELTS or 87 TOEFL or 64 PTE( Pearson Test of English )).
  • TOEFL (Paper-based Test of English as a Foreign Language): 570 (5.0 in TWE (written), and 54 in reading & listening)

English language requirement:
