About this course

There is a tremendous demand for people with experience in Biotech, both in the academic and industrial settings. Such experience can be used at the "coalface" level where the person actually carries out research, at the management level where a knowledge of techniques and approaches is required, at the regulatory level and in publicity/advertising.

The Biotechnology Research Extensive(#24) program is designed to enable scientists who wish to increase their technical and research skills in core areas of biotechnology and wish to obtain a more extended laboratory immersion than is available in the existing three semester MBiotech. The extended program will also provide a strong preparation for entry into a PhD program.The Master of Biotechnology Program is accredited by the US Council of Graduate Schools (Washington DC) as Professional Science Masters programs.

While this degree may be accredited by an official industry accreditation body in Australia, completion of the degree may not result in graduates receiving automatic accreditation. Students can contact the relevant registration body for details of any conditions for accreditation.

Eligibility Criteria

Academic Requirement:

 For Australian students:

  • An approved equivalent Bachelor degree in Biotechnology, Science, Bioinformatics, Pharmacy, Agriculture, Medicine or Engineering, with UQ or equivalent GPA of 5 or above on a 7 point scale OR Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in Biotechnology.

 For International students:

  • An approved equivalent Bachelor degree in Biotechnology, Science, Bioinformatics, Pharmacy, Agriculture, Medicine or Engineering, with UQ or equivalent GPA of 5 or above on a 7 point scale OR Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in Biotechnology.
  • IELTS overall 6.5; reading 6; writing 6; speaking 6; listening 6.Study Abroad and Incoming Exchange students are only required to meet the overall score (eg 6.5 IELTS or 87 TOEFL or 64 PTE( Pearson Test of English )).
  • TOEFL (Paper-based Test of English as a Foreign Language): 570 (5.0 in TWE (written), and 54 in reading & listening).

English language requirement:

  • IELTS overall 6.5; reading 6; writing 6; speaking 6; listening 6. 
  • Study Abroad and Incoming Exchange students are only required to meet the overall score (eg 6.5 IELTS or 87 TOEFL or 64 PTE( Pearson Test of English )).
