About this course

There is a world shortage of bioinformaticists. The Master of Bioinformatics (#24) is designed for biological sciences, computing and mathematics graduates who wish to increase their technical and research skills in core areas of bioinformatics; to update their knowledge of recent technologies and methodologies; and to obtain practical laboratory and computational skills through immersion in a research laboratory.

The program enables candidates to develop and effectively use best bioinformatics practice to solve complex scientific problems. It will also provide a preparation for entry into a Research Higher Degree program.

Eligibility Criteria

Academic Requirement:

 For Australian students:

  • An approved equivalent Bachelor degree (Honours) in Science, IT and fields of Engineering, or approved relevant discipline, incorporating a major research project or other significant research experience, with introductions to molecular biology, computer science and statistics. UQ or equivalent GPA of 5 or above on a 7 point scale.

 For International students:

  • An approved equivalent Bachelor degree (Honours) in Science, IT and fields of Engineering, or approved relevant discipline, incorporating a major research project or other significant research experience, with introductions to molecular biology, computer science and statistics. UQ or equivalent GPA of 5 or above on a 7 point scale.
  • IELTS overall 6.5; reading 6; writing 6; speaking 6; listening 6.Study Abroad and Incoming Exchange students are only required to meet the overall score (eg 6.5 IELTS or 87 TOEFL or 64 PTE( Pearson Test of English )).
  • TOEFL (Paper-based Test of English as a Foreign Language): 570 (5.0 in TWE (written), and 54 in reading & listening).

English language requirement:
