About this course

This course is aimed at students who have the potential to become doctors but do not meet the academic entry criteria to apply directly to MB ChB Medicine. It is a widening participation initiative for UK students who fulfil specific criteria.

You will develop your interest and knowledge of the basic sciences which underpin the study of medicine and to foster professional behaviours and attitudes. Medical-related work experience will form part of the course. Successful completion of this year will enable you to progress to the MB ChB Medicine.

Eligibility : Certain health conditions may be incompatible with careers in some branches of medicine. If you have a chronic health problem, you should contact the Admissions Office ([email protected]) for guidance on making an application.. No other applicants are eligible for this course.

Health and conduct : Certain health conditions may be incompatible with careers in dentistry. Before starting your degree, you will need to complete a health assessment questionnaire and pre-course screening for blood-borne viruses. These blood tests are to identify the few whose health status may place them and/or future patients at risk.

We have excellent support services available including Disability Services, student health and student counselling provision to support students where appropriate.

In accordance with General Medical Council guidelines, medical students must undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check in line with other UK health-related courses.
