GRE: All applicants must take the basic GRE test within three years of the date of application. We do not require any GRE subject area tests. We do not set requirements for minimum scores—GREs are evaluated in the context of the entire application. You will be asked to enter test dates and unofficial scores on your application, but you need to also request direct mailing of official scores to Carnegie Mellon: Institution Code 2074, Department 2501

TOEFL: If you were educated in any country other than the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Australia, or New Zealand, you must submit current TOEFL iBT scores. We require a minimum score of 25 on each of the 4 subtests, for an overall minimum score of 100. You will be asked to enter test dates and unofficial scores on your application, but you need to also request direct mailing of official scores to Carnegie Mellon: Institution Code 2074

Course Modules

Students pursuing the Master of Literary and Cultural Studies degree are required to take a minimum of 24 credit hours of course work (72 units, or 6 courses). One, or at most two, of the six courses may be taken in the Rhetoric program or elsewhere in the college. Literary and Cultural Studies courses
