About this course

Graduate studies in Home Economics Education is a small but very lively program. Over the years Home Economics faculty have worked closely in areas of shared interest in research and practice with colleagues throughout the Faculty of Education and related units across campus. Interests include global education, critical inquiry, food, health, environment, and inquiry into practice.

Eligibility Criteria

The program normally requires:

  • 18 credits of upper-level coursework or a professional concentration in the area of interest, and
  • two years of teaching experience or other relevant professional experience.

Course Modules

The program consists of a minimum of 30 credits: 21 credits of coursework plus 9 credits of thesis.

A maximum of 6 credits may be taken at the 300-400 level.

REQUIRED COURSES
EDCP 562 (3) Introduction to Curriculum Issues and Theories,
EDUC 500 (3) Research Methodologies in Education,
EDCP 5XX – 3 to 6 credits of Home Economics Education content at 500 level (1 to 2 courses).

EDCP 599c (9) Thesis.

  • Two official copies of transcripts Submit two (2) official copies of transcripts / degree certificates from all post-secondary institutions attended, directly to the ECPS Graduate Program Assistant for the program to which you are applying, except for UBC transcripts

  • Three (3) Electronic References We require references to be submitted electronically and you should let your referees know that we will not accept references by mail. References should be requested from individuals who are prepared to provide a report on your academic ability and qualifications.
  • In the online application system, applicants are asked to provide an email address for each referee.  A unique link will be emailed to each referee, allowing them to log in to a secure site and submit an online reference or upload a reference document as an attachment.
  • GRE and TOEFL scores have to be submitted.
