About this course

The Master of Education programme is primarily designed for educators working in Singapore schools and the Ministry of Education (see additional notes below). University graduates with a background in education and wishing to advance your knowledge and skills in education are also welcome to apply.

This specialisation equips Chinese language education professionals with in-depth and wide knowledge of theoretical and practical issues in Chinese language education, thus enabling you to meet the challenges at a higher stage of your career. It focuses primarily on the needs of teachers and other professionals in the field of Chinese language education, and covers both curricular and pedagogical issues, linguistic theories and culture. Current linguistic theories and research methodology pertaining to language teaching and learning are discussed enabling you to implement small scale studies related to course contents as well as your school language teaching.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates require the following to be eligible:

  • A good Bachelor’s degree from a recognised university
  • A teaching qualification such as the Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the National Institute of Education, Singapore at least one year of relevant working experience in education.

The coursework for this specialisation comprises 1 core course, 4 required specialisation courses, 1 open elective course plus either:  a dissertation or:

  • Two additional courses (one specialisation elective course and MED 902 Integrative Project)
  • MED 902 Integrative Project is open only for applicants pursuing the degree totally by coursework.

  • Hardcopy printout of the Application Form, signed at the Affirmation Section and affixed a Passport-sized photograph on the Application Form
  • Photocopy of your National Registration Identity Card (NRIC)(front and back). If you do not have an NRIC, please provide a copy of your passport information page(s)(containing the passport number, name, etc.)
  • Completed Photo Form
  • Completed Coursework Supplementary Form
  • Coursework Supplementary Form (Applicable to all Coursework programmes. To submit one Supplementary Information Form for each programme applied.)
  • Photocopy of Degree Scrolls / Certificates (Master’s Degree, Bachelor’s Degree, Postgraduate Diploma in Education, etc.)
  • Photocopy of Transcripts (Master’s Degree, Bachelor’s Degree, Postgraduate Diploma in Education, etc.). Please note that:
  • A transcript of detailed academic results is required from each university or college attended. The transcript results should show marks (wherever possible) and grades obtained in each module. If the transcript is in a language other than English, please provide an official English translation as well and the modules in the translation should be listed in the same order as that of the original transcript
  • If a complete transcript is not available, please include a complete photocopied set of examination results for every semester
  • TOEFL / IELTS Score  (Applicable to graduates of universities with non-English medium instruction) 
  • Other relevant Professional Certificates or examination results of relevant individual modules read, etc.
