About this course

The Sport Science and Management (SSM) programme is the sole degree programme offered by an autonomous university in Singapore and the region that offers undergraduates academic and professional pathways to sport-related careers. The four-year direct honours programme offers relevant knowledge in sport science and management and helps develop pertinent skills for engagement in the sports industry.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants with qualifications as deemed fit by the university (based on their online application) may be required to sit for an NTU Entrance Examination before a final decision on admission can be made. 

Prerequisites for this course include: Additional Mathematics at Junior High School Level/Mathematics at IB Standard Level

Course Modules

The general structure of the degree is in accordance to sport science based or sport management based degrees – core components, general education components, a final year project and an internship component. Students must complete a minimum of 134 academic units and fulfill all programme requirements for the award of the degree.  

SSM Core

The first and second year of the degree is common in that all students enrol for the same academic courses. Students will learn the fundamentals of the science and management of sport which includes :

  • Introduction to Sport Management
  • Introduction to Growth and Motor Development
  • Introduction to Health and Wellness
  • Foundations of Exercise Physiology
  • Psychosocial Aspects of Sport and Exercise
  • Outdoor Recreation
  • Foundations of Motor Behaviour 
  • Introduction to Sport Biomechanics
  • Sport Coaching: Foundations of Coaching
  • Sport Marketing and Sponsorship
  • Seminars in Current Issues of Sport
  • Physical Activity and Leisure for Special Populations
  • Research Methods and Design in Physical Activity and Sport
  • Fundamentals of Sport injuries
  • Management of Sport Organisations
  • Applied Statistics

SSM Major Prescribed Electives

  • Sport courses:  Students are required to choose 3 sport practical courses to fulfill as Major Prescribed electives. These electives can be read in any semester throughout the student's period of candidature in the programme.
  • Specialisation courses:Specialisation begins in the third year and continues throughout the fourth year. Students choose 6 courses to fulfill a sport science or sport management specialisation requirement. Specialization maybe in 2 categories:
    • Sports Science
    • Sports Management

GER Prescribed Electives: (15 AUs)

Students choose 5 courses from 3 categories of studies with at least 1 course in each category:

  • Liberal Arts (LA)
  • Science, Technology and Society (STS)
  • Business and Management (BM)

Free Electives: (30 AUs)

Students may fulfill the remaining AUs from any school. This choice may include the second Major, one or two Minor(s), more Economics electives or Professional Attachment.
