About this course

The second major programme is targeted at undergraduates who are keen to acquire comprehensive training in scientific analysis and problem-solving (Physics) and quantitative and logical reasoning (Mathematics). Students with excellent entrance qualification who are offered and accepted the offer of Physics and Applied Physics programme may apply for second major in Mathematical Sciences. Application to second major may also be made after the first semester of study, in which the first semester results will also be taken into consideration for the application outcome. The three tracks offered in the programme of Mathematical Sciences (Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics) will also be available for the second major programme. The two majors share common strands as Physics makes strong use of mathematical tools and Applied Mathematics includes theoretical problems in Physics.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants with qualifications as deemed fit by the university (based on their online application) may be required to sit for an NTU Entrance Examination before a final decision on admission can be made. 

Prerequisites for this course are:  A good grade in Additional Mathematics at Junior High School Level / Mathematics at IB Standard Level and A good grade in English at Senior High School Level / IB Standard Level

In addition to the Bachelors in Physics Courses students must complete 59 AU of Mathematics core courses (including the core courses of a specific track) along with 17 AU of track specificmajor prescribed electives.
