About this course

This programme has been specifically designed for international students whose qualifications are not yet formally recognised by the University, but can demonstrate evidence of sufficient knowledge, via an entrance test, to progress onto a Biological Sciences degree.

This innovative programme will be integrated into the first year of study, and unlike many other foundation programmes, will not mean an extra year of study.

In year 1 students will take two Biology courses compulsory for all first year Biological Sciences students.. Additional courses will include Biological Chemistry courses and English for Academic Purposes which have been specially designed for Science & Engineering Global Select Pathway programme students.

Eligibility Criteria

This programme is designed for international students who have not previously been able to access our undergraduate degrees, due to the fact that their school-leaving qualification was not recognised by the University of Edinburgh.

This innovative programme is integrated into the first year, so unlike many other foundation programmes, will not mean an extra year of study.

After successful completion of the first year, students will have the opportunity to transfer into a variety of different degree programmes, within their chosen subject area.

Course Modules

Year 1
Students will take Origin & Diversity of Life 1: Molecules, Genes & Cells 1: Biological Chemistry 1A and an additional Academic English for International Students course which has been specifically designed for science and engineering students.

Year 2
After successful completion of the first year, students will progress into Year 2 of the biological sciences programmes.
