About this course

The Bachelor of Commerce program prepare students for a career in accounting, banking, financial management, information systems and management.Compulsory courses in the degree build a solid foundation of business skills that they will apply to many decisions and issues in the contemporary business environment. These core skills are then further developed in the second and third years as they specialise by undertaking one or two majors. Commerce majors are in accounting, business information systems and finance.

Completion of the Bachelor of Commerce degree with the accounting major, for example, allows students to apply for associate membership of the professional accounting bodies.The combination of core skills and specialist knowledge learned in the Bachelor of Commerce will ensure that students can adapt effectively to the ever-changing business environment and as a result be in high demand with employers.Courses allow students to develop the skills necessary to practice in the accounting profession.

Graduates work in a range of fields including:

  • Public sector government departments and agencies (local, state and commonwealth) concerned with economic policy or public accounting/financial auditing
  • Private sector multinational corporations or local firms as professional accountants, economists or managers
  • Financial institutions, stockbroking firms and merchant banks as security, economic, investment and business analysts
  • Public utilities fields of transport, communications and power supply
  • Specialist organisations, industry associations, management consultancies, market research and advertising organisations, trade unions, and stockbroking and investment advisory services

Eligibility Criteria

English language requirement:

  • At least 6.5 overall and a minimum of 6.0 in each sub-band of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or equivalent test.
  • Study Abroad and Incoming Exchange students are only required to meet the overall score (eg 6.5 IELTS or 87 TOEFL or 64 PTE( Pearson Test of English )).

Academic Requirement:

  •  For Australian students:

          1)Queensland Year 12 (or equivalent) English, Mathematics B.

          2)OP/Entry Rank:6/89

  •  For International students:

          1)  Equivalent qualification for Queensland Year 12 (or equivalent) English, Mathematics B.

          2)At least 6.5 overall and a minimum of 6.0 in each sub-band of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or equivalent test.
